Description

A lovely hand-colored etching showing the perspective plan of Venice, taken from the work Il Fiore di Venezia, a portfolio of Venetian paintings, monuments, views, and customs represented in engravings illustrated by Ermolao Paoletti and published in Venice by Tommaso Fontana in 1837-1840.

The Bird’s Eye view was first published in 1838. This print dates circa 1920s-1930s.

A Gravure on copper etching colored in earthy sepia tones.

At the top right, a cartouche with the inscription “Raise plan. It is needed for the opera Il Fiore di Venezia. Edition of T. Fountain”

In a burl-wood frame with black edges, a newer top hanging loop.

Very minor foxing to the paper, the frame shows the expected light wear.
