Description
An English majolica oval serving platter from Wedgwood, date marked R for the year 1889.
The server is edged with a delicate yellow ochre reticulated rim that imitates the ribbing of a basket. The rim meets the basketweave center glazed in the mottled tortoiseshell coloring of greens, brown, and ochre. The center of the server anchors the basketwork as it weaves its way concentrically towards the rim.
The excellent mold work expected of Wedgwood along with gorgeous color.
The watery glazed verso has an applied footing.
