A French Barbotine majolica pitcher or large jug, in the form of a performing Circus bear, holding his drum and a drumstick. Attributed to Orchies or possibly Poet Laval, circa late 1880s.
The bear is glazed in white with a deep red interior. He wears a blue studded collar which joins the handle. The handle is glazed to resemble a chain. His eyes and the rim of the drum are glazed in the same blue as the collar.

Excellent antique condition, light surface wear.
