Description
From the Belle Epoque Era, a hanging and folding Bentwood Oak and Brass coat and hat rack, France, circa 1880-1900.
A highly decorative hanging wall rack, beautifully hand made, suitable in the front hall for holding jackets, scarves and hats. Also great in the kitchen for holding tea towels, oven mitts, and other pieces of cookery.
The rack is adorned with brass hooks, brass collars where the bentwood is joined together, and brass chains for supporting the top portion of the rack in an open position. Two brass balls finish the ends of the oak frame. Also wooden balls and ornaments dot the piece.
A round mirror in a wide wood bezel.
The hinged rack is held open by side chains when in use, and folds flat to the wall when not in use.
All original – the screws, brass end caps, chains, and hinges are original to the piece.
Measures: 30.5 in. L x 15.5 in. H x 3.5 in. D when closed. The rack hangs 8 in. from the wall when open.
The expected light wear from age and use. Lovely patina to the brass accents. Light denting to the ball finials.
