Belle Epoque Oak & Brass Hanging Newspaper Rack

$1,280.00

1 in stock

Description

From the Belle Epoque Era, a hanging and folding Oak wood and Brass magazine rack, France, circa 1880-1900.

On the outer facing side, the rack features an unusual stylized metal inset design made up of individually shaped brass pieces. Each piece of scrolled brass is attached to the frame by screws and capped with brass balls. The ends of the oak frame is also finished with brass balls.

The hinged rack hangs by a chain. It is held open by side chains when in use, and folds flat to the wall when not in use.

All original – the screws, brass end caps, chains, hinges, and the scrolled brass adornments are original to the piece.

A highly decorative hanging wall rack, suitable in the front hall for gathering mail, in a study for the daily papers, or in the bath for magazines.

Measures: 18 in. L x 8.5 in. H x 3 in. W when closed.

The hanging chain is 12 in. L.    The rack measures 5 in. at the widest when open.

The expected light wear from age and use. Lovely patina to the brass accents. Light denting to the ball finials.
