A set of six British Romantic themed transfer printed dinner plates in the pattern known as ‘Royal Sketches.’ Circa mid 19th Century, Staffordshire, England.
The center image shows the Fishing Temple at Virginia Water. The fishing temple was constructed by George IV in the chinoiserie style about 1825. Virginia Water was a man- made lake created in Windsor Great Park in the 1750s. A canopied barge full of people sails on the lake, Weeping Willow trees, the Temple, and mountains are seen in the distance. A floral border is made up of roses, thistles and shamrocks, the emblems of England, Scotland and Ireland. A geometric pattern follows the unusual shaped rim.
Made of earthenware with an underglaze tissue printed transfer. Maker unknown, marked with a cartouche showing the pattern name.
10.5 inches in diameter x 1.25 inches high.
Some light wear to the rims, as expected.
