A scarce majolica glazed, French faïence oyster plate showing six scallop shell wells surrounding a central sauce well, with a raised border of green flowering bamboo. The creamy glazed oyster shells are lined with two blue bands, the fruit of the bamboo plant are shown in red clusters of four. The shells sit on a stippled ground with raised bamboo leaves. The sauce well has a rim painted in yellow ochre.
Hand-painted at the J. Charlionais and L. Pourailly Cie factory, which specialized in bar, cafe and restaurant ware, circa 1890.
An impressed makers mark on the verso.
