Copeland & Sons Majolica Fish Pàté Jar – SOLD

A rare WT Copeland & Sons, English majolica pâté jar with a fish handled cover, circa 1875.

The straight sided jar is decorated with a large fishing net strung with floats, draped over a cobalt blue ground. The lid is molded as netting with a grey fish resting on a bed of seaweed, forming the handle. A pink interior to both pieces, highly dimensional mold work. 

William Taylor Copeland purchased the Spode Works in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, from Josiah Spode in 1833. Copeland brought his four sons into partnership in 1867, calling the firm W. T. Copeland & Sons. The firm continues today as Spode Ltd.

Impressed COPELAND on the bottom of the base.
