Description
A set of six French Rebus Puzzle dessert plates, transfer printed in black on a white earthenware body. When solved, the picture puzzle spells out a wise saying or maxim.
From the early 1800’s into the early 1900’s, most French homes had a set of Rebus dessert plates. Solving the puzzle provided entertainment and conversation to the table after a traditionally long meal. The solution is printed on the verso of the plate.
A double band of French Blue lining borders a raised shell form embossed rim with the rebus in the center of the plate.
