A large, French Barbotine majolica glazed vase showing a colorful parrot sitting on a Bamboo perch. The perch rests in a grass crop and features two bamboo shoot flower holders, circa 1875.
Signed Delphin Massier et Cie, Vallauris A.M.
Delphin, born in 1836, was one of three brothers from the Massier family, a dynasty of potters dating back to before the French Revolution. The family played a key role in the revival of pottery in Vallauris, Southern France. Delphin worked in the family business of Jérôme Massier et Cie in Vallauris from 1860-1880. He specialized in free-standing figures of birds and florals.
