A set of six French Provençal linen serviettes, showing a hand-embroidered monogram, circa late 1890s to early 1900s.
Dinner sized in a checkered patterned linen damask, and initialed P.S. The initials are embroidered with thread matching the damask.
Newly dyed by hand in small batches in Provençe, in a soft Dove Gray color, using an organic vegetable dye. After dying, the napkins are laundered and rinsed with lavender water, starched and ironed. Color variations and starch residue from ironing are a part of the process.
