A very rarely found, early Wedgwood majolica glazed conch shell and coral open salt – date marked 1872. Most likely designed by John Bell in the Palissy fashion and the Rococo Revival style.

The open conch shell is glazed in a soft blue and white with pink decoration, and sits on a raised  yellow ochre coral form pedestal with a deep cobalt blue mounded base. The interior is glazed in a pale ombre pink, the underside is glazed in an aqua blue and marked as shown.

Impressed: Wedgwood, and the date letters, IZY A  –  A for the year 1872.
