A shell form asparagus plate, William Adderley, Longton, Staffordshire, England, circa 1880, for the French market.
A transfer printed pattern of floral sprays dot an open clam shell, asparagus spears lay across the center of the plate. Hand painted decoration mimics the hinge of the shell.
Marked with a stamped Floribella, the name of the pattern , WAA with the Adderley mark of a tall ship in a chain circle. Impressed IVORY and stamped Dépose, for import to France.
