English Majolica Blue Basketweave and Wild Rose Teapot – SOLD

An English Majolica teapot, from the Staffordshire region, maker unknown, circa 1860-1880.

In remarkable condition, the pouch shaped body shows a basketweave pattern glazed in a washed ultramarine blue overlayed with leafy sprigs of wild roses colored in a deep pink. The handle and the top handle on the corresponding lid, also showing wild roses, are formed as brown branches. The spout is also formed as a branch and it is glazed to match the body of the pot. The interiors of the kettle are glazed in pink. The lid shows a steam hole and has a rope border outlined in yellow ochre.

Majolica teapots are difficult to find without restoration. This charming piece is intact and displays beautifully.

9.5 in. L x 6.5 in. W x 6.75 in. H including the top handle.

Incredible antique condition.
