An English Majolica tea kettle, from the Staffordshire region, maker unknown, circa 1860-1880.
In remarkable condition, the body shows a basketweave pattern glazed in a soft ultramarine blue overlayed with leafy sprigs of flowers colored in a deep pink. The bottom third of the kettle and the corresponding lid show a radiating paneled molding glazed in a soft turquoise. The spout, upright handle, the top knob, and the rim of the lid are glazed in yellow. The interiors of the kettle are glazed in pink. The lid shows a steam hole.
Kettles with upright handles are difficult to find without restoration. This charming piece is intact and displays beautifully.
8 in. L x 5.5 in. W x 8.5 in. H including the raised handle.
Mild overall crazing to the lighter glazed areas as expected.
