A scarce pair of English majolica strawberry themed footed comports, circa 1870-1880.
Charming rustic mold work showing all aspects of the strawberry plant – green leaves, pink blossoms and fruits, and brown twining stems on a creamy white ground. The top sides of the comports are a free-form, rectangular shape and bordered with a brown glazed edging.
The comports sit raised on rectangular footings with corresponding mold work and glazing.
The undersides are glazed with the faux tortoiseshell finish particular to English majolica of the period.
Showing the marks of the glazers.
