A British School Regency Period nature study, mounted in a stenciled and lacquered papier-mâché frame of the same period – Circa 1840.
These prints were hand-colored using watercolor or gouache.
The subject is a detailed botanical study of a stone fruit tree. A cluster of cherry fruit suspend from a leafy twig, typical of pomological studies from the 1800s.
The print is detailed and realistically painted. Carefully colored with delicate shadowing, on a soft watercolor paper.
The Chinoiserie or Victorian-era frame is composed of lacquered papier-mâché and hand stenciled with traditional, stylized gold floral borders and red lattice work on a black ground, in the Japonisme style.
An inner matte shows hand painted gold lining to the beveled edging.
Outer frame: 13.5 in. L x 11.75 in.W x .75 in.
Very good antique condition, not examined out of frame.
The hand made frame is in remarkable condition with a newer backing, under plexiglass – Â showing the expected minor age wear.
