A transfer printed vanity or chemists pot, made by Grey’s Pottery, England, circa early 20th Century.
A. E. Grey operated between 1912 – 1920, on Mayer Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.
The transfer printed lid shows a scene titled,”Winter.” A man walks through a winter landscape carrying a bundle of wood on his back, accompanied by his dog.
Hand painted pink splashed lustre decoration surrounds the central transfer image on the lid, and circles the outer surface of the base.
Splashed lustre is also referred to as mottled or splatter lustre, and is characteristic of the late 19th, early 20th century Sunderland potteries in the north-east of England. The technique is often incorporated with a lithographic transfer monochrome print.
The covered pot measures 4 inches in Diameter x 2 inches H.
There is a loss to the inner rim of the base, not affecting the seating of the lid.
Overall, showing the expected wear associated with age and use.
The sister vanity pot, “Spring” may be available, as seen in the last two photos.
