A charming Trompe l’Oeil plate in the Italian Faïence style by Este For Tiffany & Co. made in Italy, circa mid 1970s to the early 1980s.
The ceramic plate or wall plaque shows a group of four life-size, three dimensional apples centrally seated on a plate hand-painted with a scroll and floral blue border, typical of French or Italian faïence. The plate shows a scalloped edge, the upside down apples are realistically molded and painted in bold contrast to the crisp pattern of the plate.
Since pre-Roman times, Este has been a renowned center for hand decorated ceramics and porcelains. The family owned Este Ceramiche Porcellane has operated for nearly 200 years, creating exclusive lines for such retailers as Tiffany, NY and Bergdorf-Goodman.
