A charming Trompe l’Oeil plate in the Chinoiserie style by Este For Tiffany & Co. made in Italy, circa mid 1970s to the early 1980s.
The ceramic plate or wall plaque shows a life-size, three dimensional pear centrally seated on a plate hand-painted in a Chinoiserie or Chinese influenced floral pattern. A bridge spans a flowing stream against a background of flowering branches and a butterfly. Brightly colored and crisply painted, the shaped plate is double edged in a Bittersweet Red.
Since pre-Roman times, Este has been a renowned center for hand decorated ceramics and porcelains. The family owned Este Ceramiche Porcellane has operated for nearly 200 years, creating exclusive lines for such retailers as Tiffany, NY and Bergdorf-Goodman.
