Description
A charming Trompe l’Oeil plate, made in Italy by Este Ceramiche, circa mid 1960s to the early 1970s.
The ceramic plate or wall plaque shows a three dimensional bunch of green onions, centrally seated on a white earthenware paneled plate.
The long onions are glazed and modeled realistically, the root ends are made of extruded clay.
The plate also shows well seated on a tabletop or hung on the wall.
Since pre-Roman times, Este has been a renowned center for hand decorated ceramics and porcelains. The family owned Este Ceramiche Porcellane has operated for nearly 200 years, creating exclusive lines for such retailers as Tiffany, NY and Bergdorf Goodman.
The plate hanger is included.
