Description
A scarce barbotine majolica glazed oval Asparagus plate, France, circa 1880-1890, maker unknown.
This unusual plate shows six raised asparagus spears in a ribbed pattern, glazed in a pale yellow, stemming from a scrolled Acanthus leaf base. The spears are separated by transfer printed, hand-colored floral sprays. The shaped rim follows the form of the asparagus.
Marked: Impressed mold number 20200.
