A French majolica oyster plate made by Fives Lille, circa 1890. A central sauce well is surrounded by six scallop edged wells. Highly dimensional mold work. Beautiful coloring gradating from turquoise to navy to a cobalt blue and terminating in a shell pink rim. Marked with an impressed mold number, R, 4045 and a hand-painted glazer’s mark.
This mold was also used by Longchamp. Book reference – Karsnitz pg.46
