A large, French Barbotine majolica glazed vase, Signed Delphin Massier et Cie, Vallauris A.M. – circa 1875.
A colorful parrot sitting on a Bamboo perch. The perch rests in a grass crop and features two bamboo shoot flower holders.
Delphin, born in 1836, was one of three brothers from the Massier family, a dynasty of potters dating back to before the French Revolution. The family played a key role in the revival of pottery in Vallauris, Southern France. Delphin worked in the family business of Jérôme Massier et Cie in Vallauris from e specialized in free-standing figures of birds and florals.
