1 in stock

Description

A classic French Barbotine majolica pig water pitcher, Frie Onnaing, circa 1921.

Known as the “Cochon au Jambon,” a pig with a ham, the tan colored pig is crowned with an olive green  Laurel Leaf, a burgundy colored ribbon slung across his chest holds a cooked ham on a rope. The handle repeats the Laurel Leaf pattern in a brighter green. A spoof on taking a pig to market, this piggy takes a cooked ham to market.

This example has exceptional color, made when the Onnaing factory resumed production after WWI, as evidenced by the makers mark on the bottom.

Marked with an impressed ‘Frie Onnaing, Made in France’ Mold No. 755

Book Reference: ‘Pichets en Barbotine’ Maryse Bottero, Pg. 83.

8.5 in. at the Widest on a base 5 in. Round x 8.5 in. High

In very good antique condition with light overall crazing. Glaze slipping where the upper handle joins the body, a kiln effect resulting in brighter colored areas.
