A majolica glazed Palissy style earthenware seaweed and shells oyster plate made by George Jones, Stoke-on-Trent, circa 1870.
Six pink edged scallop shells surround a central sauce well and rest on the back sides of smaller shells. Raised green seaweed tipped in red is hand painted, spiral shells are molded on the front of the plate. The red iron oxide painters number on the verso.
