Description
A scarce set of eight Porte Couteau, or knife rests, each signed HB Quimper, Grande Maison, de la Hubaudière or the HB factory. “H” for Hubaudière, the factory owner at the time, and “B” for Bousquet, the original founder – France, circa 1930.
Figural forms, four each of the Breton men, and the Bretonne women of the Brittany region of north-western France. Showing the traditional dress of head coverings, aprons, and the wooden Sabots. Charming forms – the men wear striped trousers, the women have their feet crossed at the ankles. Unusual for the monochromatic color scheme.
Measuring 4″L x 1.25″W x 2.25″H
Light wear typically seen in faience, some factory/firing flaws, in the making.
