An Etruscan majolica cauliflower plate by Griffen, Smith & Hill, circa 1885-1890.
Founded in Pennsylvania, GS&H is the best known of the American majolica potteries. The name “Etruscan,” borrowed from Josiah Wedgwood’s “Etruria” line, was inspired by the discovery of pottery from Ancient Rome. The Cauliflower pattern was based on the earlier Wedgwood design.
The head of the cauliflower is central, surrounded by heavily veined green leaves. The leaf edges are tinged in pink, forming a star-like pattern.
Marked with the encircled GSH monogram and Etruscan Majolica.
The versos of the plates may differ. All are marked with the encircled Etruscan mark.

All plates are in very good antique condition. The light expected wear to the high points.
