Description
A French majolica ravier by H.B. Boulanger, Choisy le Roi, France, circa 1880 – 1890.
A ravier is a small, deep, oblong dish in which appetizers or hors-d’œuvres are served. This shape is difficult to find, especially in this pattern.
The brown glazed oval handled dish shows a layered pattern of overlapping ferns beneath a single large leaf glazed in shades of green. Green stems of five petaled pink flowers are tied with a purple bow. The beaded rim and handles are outlined in yellow ochre.
Strong clear color on the front contrasts with a pale turquoise ground to the verso.
9.5 in. L x 5.25 in. W x 1.5 in. H
