Joseph Holdcroft majolica ware was produced at Daisy Bank in Longton, England from 1870 to 1885. His work is coveted for their true to natural forms and the meticulous, bold glazing.
Here we have an excellent quality Holdcroft majolica salmon server, Circa 1875. A brightly colored whole fish lies on a seaweed bed. The molded ground and shaped rim are sculpted in a wave-like turquoise pattern. Shell shaped handles are at either end. The verso is glazed in a mottled olive green.
23″ L x 10″ W x 2.5″ H
This piece is nearly perfect. There is a small painted nip to the rim of one end handle as shown in the last image, considered minor in terms of the rarity of this platter.
