From John Denton Bagster, a set of eight dinner plates from the “Vignette” series, Hanley, Staffordshire, England, circa 1823-1827.
Often called the Scottish Shepherd, the plates show one view in a series of rural romantic scenes. The Scottish shepherd occupies a small vignette within a broad border of flowers and floral scrolls. The shepherd wears a tartan and a Tam o’Shanter cap, while leaning on a staff and attending two sheep. The lovely soft blue transfer is printed on a white earthenware body.
Marked: A cartouche of a Staffordshire knot with the pattern name and the initials IDB – (Ian Denton Bagster) along with an impressed knot.
10 in. Diameter x 1 in. H
All eight plates are in incredible antique condition.
