Description

A French majolica glazed Absinthe water pitcher formed as a rooster, Keller & Guerin St. Clément, circa 1890-1910. The Gallic rooster, in French: le coq gaulois, is an unofficial national symbol of France.

This Barbotine majolica pitcher was made to be used for pouring water over a sugar cube in the Absinthe drinking ritual. The earthenware rooster is brightly glazed in red, orange and shades of green. His tail feathers form the handle, his mouth is the spout.
