An original French children’s game box lid – Loto Zoologique – chromolithograph printed circa 1900, framed.
A “Loto Zoologique” is a traditional French educational picture-lotto board game featuring animals.
Early versions date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, produced by historic French toy makers like Watilliaux or publishers like Fernand Nathan.
The boxes of the early editions featured charming, highly collectible color lithograph box tops and illustrated cardboard game cards showing various animals to teach children natural history. Many classic versions were inspired by the works of the famous French naturalist Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon.
This game box top is an original printing, showing a lion in a landscape of colorful foliage with the Pyramids in the background, surrounded by a running chevron border.
The colors are still fresh and bright. Beautiful graphic with typography typical of the era.
Somewhat recently framed and matted in a gold and black frame.

Very minor wear to the print as expected, wear to the paper backing of the frame.
