From the Luneville Faïence factory in France, an Aesthetic Movement trompe l’oeil asparagus plate, circa 1880-1889.
A wonderful illusion where the asparagus spears lay on a raised section imitative of a white lace napkin. The four corners of the napkin are stretched tightly and threaded through ‘holes’ in the plate itself. Raised mold work shows branching twigs with berries on a pale turquoise blue ground.
