From Moore & Company – Old Foley Pottery, a set of six soup plates, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 1886.
The set of six octagonal shaped deep plates show a pattern in the aesthetic taste. Birds, butterflies, and Dogwood branches are transfer printed in Sepia on a creamy-white earthenware ground. Charming in its simplicity, the pattern exemplifies the Aesthetic Movement philosophy of “Art for Arts Sake.”
Ideal for soups, pasta, stews or salads.
9.5 in. in Diameter x 1.5 in. Deep
Marked: A printed ribboned cartouche showing the pattern name, Impressed Moore & Co. with the English registration No. 45631
All six plates are in remarkable, clean condition, without the expected staining often seen in patterns of this type.
