From the Salins-les-Bains region of Eastern France, Terre de Fer plates in the ‘Pensées’ pattern, circa 1890-1912.
In the language of flowers, pansies are used to symbolize loving feelings. The word “Pansy” is derived from the French word “penser,” which means to think or ponder, and this pattern is titled ‘Pensées’ or Thoughts.
The Art Nouveau floral pattern is a rich Sepia brown transfer printed floral on a creamy white ironstone body. The dinner sized plates show a large stylized spray of open pansies, seed heads and leaves. Two smaller sprays of pansies balance out the pattern.
Measures: 9 in. Diameter x 1.0 in. H
Marked: Printed mark showing Salins and the pattern name. Impressed Terre de Fer. A few plates do not show the transfer printed mark.
