Description

From the coveted Royal Palissy line, a majolica glazed Fern and Floral footed comport, from Samuel Alcock & Co, Burslem, Staffordshire, England, circa 1850.

This is a scarce example of Alcocks Palissy style majolica pottery.

The footed comport is made up of an oval platter with a shaped rim and sitting on a raised pedestal.

The top shows a realistic and complex pattern of overlapping green leaves, with a central light green fern leaf and a resting butterfly against a brown stippled ground.

The gorgeous and dimensional border is made up of mustard yellow scrolls, dotted with a variety of brightly glazed flowers.

The oval platter sits on a raised two inch high brown glazed footing, showing a running border of green leaves and deep pink buds following the shapely bottom rim.

The verso is finished in a mottled brown glaze.

An incredible piece for the discerning collector.

Pattern Number 4.

11.5 in. L x 9 in. W x 2.5 in. H

In very good antique condition – an older rim nip to the underside of the platter at the side handle, not seen on the top or at the side of the piece.
