A French majolica glazed Absinthe water pitcher formed as a Marabou Stork, St. Clément, circa 1900-1904.
This earthenware Barbotine majolica pitcher is beautifully hand-painted. The stork stands in a crop of tropical greenery, a bamboo stalk forms the handle. His beak has a very small hole for the spout, indicating it was intended for Absinthe.
An exotic bird, the Marabou is indigenous to Africa and Southeast Asia. Stamped makers mark, and impressed St. Clement, France.
