A Staffordshire pottery hen on a basket covered tureen, England, circa 1890
The hand painted bisque hen sits on her eggs in a glossy Sienna brown basket weave oval base. The hen shows a white feathered body with folded wings and erect tail feathers. Her head is highlighted in black and brick red. She warms her eggs on a bed of green grass.
Decorated in the round – she can be displayed from any angle.
The interior of the base and lid are finished in white.
Both the base and lid are marked with mold numbers.

Good antique condition. Very light flea biting to the interior rim of the base, unseen when the hen is seated.
