Description
A letter knife or opener made of naturally shed Stag Horn with a Sterling Silver ferrule, England, circa 1890-1910.
The Sterling ferrule is hand chased and formed as a double face of the green man, one on either side of the knife.
The Green Man is a decorative architectural motif and folkloric figure depicting a human face made up of leaves and vines. He is a universal symbol of nature and rebirth.
The blade is most likely made of steel, and measures four inches long.
Beautiful hand chased silver work.
