Sepia colored transfer printed on white ironstone dinner plates, imported to France from England by Emile Bourgeois, circa 1880s. A set of 12.
A charming Aesthetic Movement floral pattern of blooming Dogwood branches with a scrolled ribbon motif running across the plate. The plates show a floral border on the rim.
Emile Bourgeois was a significant retailer of Stoke-on-Trent English ceramics at his Paris based Le Grand Dépôt, introducing Parisien Society to fine English ceramics. He began his establishment in 1862 at 17 Rue Drouot in Paris, with a branch at 33 Rue St. Féreol in Marseille, offering decorative porcelain, earthenware, and crystal glassware.
