Description
From Wedgwood, a very scarce English majolica glazed oval platter or tray, date marked 1882.
In the Aesthetic Movement taste, a large six-sided star is centered on a complex, geometric molded background glazed in a deep blue- steel gray.
The star is glazed in a gorgeous turquoise and outlined in a mustard yellow. Against a stippled ground, floral sprigs radiate from a central medallion into the points of the star.
Four additional floral motifs are contained in diamond shaped cartouches, and placed outside of the central star, adding balance to this unusual tray.
The platter is rimmed in the same mustard yellow as the star.
The precise mold work and careful glazing we expect from Wedgwood.
