From France, a hand-made Fil de Fer, iron wire egg basket, circa 1890 – 1910.
A petal top footed basket made of twisted metal wire, in a bulbous form, rustic with complex wire work.
Great on the kitchen countertop used as originally intended throughout Provençal France for gathering and storing fresh eggs.
Shaped just right for securely cradling precious eggs. Shown here holding eighteen eggs, for a reference of capacity.
Measures: 16 inches high x 9 inches at the widest point in diameter.
Good antique condition, lovely patina with the expected bending.
Off-round due to age and use, adding to the charm.
