From France, a hand-made Fil de Fer, iron wire egg basket, circa 1890 – 1910.
A round, petal top footed, folding basket made of twisted metal wire, rustic with complex wire work.
Great on the kitchen countertop used as originally intended throughout Provençal France for gathering and storing fresh eggs.
The top petals of the rim are moveable, allowing them to fold in for securely cradling precious eggs.
Measures:
The base is 7.5 inches in diameter.
The top petals measure 12.5 inches fully opened.
Height: 6.25 inches fully opened.
Good antique condition, lovely patina with the expected bending. Off-round due to age and use, adding to the charm.
