1 in stock

Description

An English majolica four fish jug, attributed to Adams and Bromley, circa 1875-1880.

This whimsical Victorian Era pitcher is formed as four, side by side upright fish, standing on their tails. A smaller fish bends to form the handle.

Predominately glazed in a deep reflective green/gray/ black, the fish have brown fins and white bellies. The jug has a mustard yellow pouring lip and base, and a deep pink interior.

John Adams & Co. produced majolica under the name The Victoria Works on St. James Street in Hanley, Staffordshire, from 1864 to 1873. The Victoria Works was taken over and run by Adams & Bromley until 1886.

Adams & Bromley majolica was rarely marked., but collectors are able to attribute their wares by their distinctive mold work and glazing.
