Description

A beautifully framed Monkey Plate from the Buffon Comte de Quadrúpedes series by Georges-Louis Leclerc, France  – circa 1770.

A copper plate, hand-colored engraving titled, La Guenon a Nez Blanc Prominent, from the “Histoire Naturelle, Generale et Particuliere.” A Guenon is a forest monkey from sub-Saharan Africa with a prominent white nose.

Matted and custom framed under glass in black lacquered wood with green boulle and gold leaf details.

Provenance: from the Estate of Barbara Allen de Kwiatkowski, a model, socialite, and Andy Warhol protege. Kwiatkowski made her name as a young editor at Interview Magazine and as a popular subject of the Society Pages. The print, a Parish-Hadley Commission from Judy Cormier Decorative European prints, New York City, hung in her Connecticut estate, decorated by legendary interior designers Sister Parish and Albert Hadley.
