Description

A set of twenty-four Art Nouveau period forks and knives made by Dominique Capmartin, circa 1900 – 1910.

Sized for the cheese and fruit or dessert courses for the French table, the silver plate and brass service consists of twelve each forks and sharp knives.

The trident shaped, three tined forks show brass uppers fitted into the silver handle with a half -ball shaped ferrule. The brass knives are fitted to match. The forks show an engraved pattern on both the front and back sides. The shapely filled silver handles are typical of the Art Nouveau period.

Known for their high quality production, Capmartin cutlers were located at 117 Rue de Turenne in Paris.

Forks: 6.5 in. L x .75 in. W x 50 in. H

Knives: 7 in. L x .75 in. W x .50 in. H

Marked: Each piece is hallmarked on the front with ‘CD’ sitting over the figure of a bear in a small square cartouche, along with the number 12, indicating the quantity of silver used in the plating process.

Included are the black felt keeping rolls.

Rolls: 9.5 in. L x 2.5 in. H when rolled and tied.

Very good conditions, all pieces fit tightly without wobbling. The expected light wear with un-polished patina.
