Minton Majolica John Henk Rooster Figural, circa 1910

$4,400.00

1 in stock

Description

From Minton, a monumental and rare Rooster figure, Stoke-Upon-Trent, Staffordshire, England, circa 1910.

A mold designed by John Henk, this faithful representation of a proud rooster is brightly glazed in a glossy majolica finish, using the tin glazes formulated by the French ceramicist Léon Arnoux, launched at The Great Exhibition of 1851.

Realistic from all angles, his blue and gray tail feathers are in bold contrast to his red comb and wattle. He stands on an oval base of tall grasses and leaves. Modeled and colored beautifully, right down to the painted reflections in his eyes.

Showing the Mintons mark used from 1891-1912 and mold No. 4046.

12 in. L x 6 in. W x 13.5 in. H

A minor spot of glaze loss to his comb as shown, otherwise excellent.
