Samuel Alcock Blue/Green Geranium Majolica Plate – SOLD

Description

SOLD

A Royal Palissy line Geranium Floral Majolica glazed plate, from Samuel Alcock & Co, Burslem, Staffordshire, England, circa 1850 – 1860.

Alcocks Geranium pattern pieces are difficult to find and very much in demand by collectors. This plate shows an especially rare color way cobalt blue blue in the background.

An overall free floating pattern of Geranium flower heads and their leaves glazed in yellow, blue, and greens on a brown and blue ground. A green twig form lining borders the rim.

The bold color and water-color type glazing technique is distinctive to Alcock majolica pottery. The mottled turquoise blue, green and brown glazing to the verso is also a hallmark of Alcock.
