Description

From Sarreguemines, a French Majolica pig pitcher known as True Rieuse, or the Laughing Sow, date marked 1904.

This Barbotine majolica pitcher was made to be used for pouring water over a sugar cube in the Absinthe drinking ritual.

The pig is glazed in a creamy pale yellow with burgundy red colored accents on the ears and snout. The eyes are finished in white with small, round black pupils looking upward.

A single hole for the spout, indicating it was intended for Absinthe. Later examples of this mold will show two holes for the spout.

A beautiful turquoise blue interior.
